Litigation in Canada – Managing Legal Proceedings from Germany

Apr 2, 2025

Court procedures have evolved significantly since the pandemic, and Canada is no exception. Where in-person attendance was once mandatory, many hearings can now be conducted via Zoom. This shift offers practical advantages for German businesses and investors with legal matters in Canada.

At JACOB LAW, we regularly leverage this flexibility. In a recent multi-day proceeding in Ontario, our German clients and legal team were able to attend a witness examination via Zoom—conveniently from our Munich office. Due to the time difference, these sessions typically begin in the early afternoon in Germany and run into the evening. While this may seem unconventional, it eliminates the need for transatlantic travel and allows for cost-effective, hassle-free participation—without the burden of jet lag.

Our German clients communicate with our Canadian lawyers in German, while we handle all court proceedings in English. This bilingual approach minimizes language barriers and streamlines the process, eliminating the need to engage an additional law firm in Canada.

With digital advancements, we are now more efficient than ever in managing litigation across borders.
